  1. I could be totally wrong, but in looking at my USA and Russia jerseys from the 02 olympics, they are the same overall body design, i.e. shape and cut. They are just as similar as my edge 1.0 flames and penguins jerseys. They have different patterns (body panels) and different colors and striping, but the overall size and shape is identical (same neck line, waist and cuffs). So my point is that the edge system is no different than nike was in 02. THey let the countries pick the patterns and colors and striping combos, then sewed them up into the same sized and overall body type uniform. Just like the edge jerseys. Everybody on here hates the diaper cut on the the edge jerseys, when I put my USA and RUSSIA jerseys on top of each other, you can't see any difference between the overall dimensions. So again my point is....If the same manufacturer makes the ALL the jerseys, then they will all have the overall same cut and style. If you get to pick from different sources, than you could pick the diaper cut, or a straight cut or anything else you can get them to design for you. Nike is as innovative as the league allows them to be. In college where each team owns it's own rights and can make the uniforms however they want you see all kinds of crazy things. i.e. The Oregon Ducks. The are the hometown Nike billboards. So it's possible to do whatever you want. The problem is that the professional leagues want to take the control away from teams and keep the ideas AND MONEY for the leagues and NOT the teams. It's a covert profit sharing system. Addidas, Reebok, PUMA , NIKE , Majestic or anybody else for that matter COULD make the coolest Hockey jersey ever seen. All they have to do is sew what the team tells them too. They take a really cool design from the team, load it into a computer and in 5 minutes, you have a really cool jersey custom made in China. They black market has proved that's possible. And they can use as nice or crappy material as you want to pay for. THis is ALL about control from the NHL. OK, my rant is over. Sorry for that. I've been collecting Soccer jerseys with my son as well, and this is only a problem in the U.S. as all of the European teams control their own jersey's, hell, some teams MAKE their own jersey's now and really make a killing.
  2. I remember years ago when the last of the helmetless players were still on the ice. The talk from the "league" and announcers was that it was a travesty to fans as nobody would be able to tell who the players were anymore. The general thought from all the talking heads in PR ad TV was that fans wouldn't be able to connect with players anymore because they couldn't see their faces. (It hasn't seemed to hurt football too much as most fans seem to know who they are rooting for). I can only imagine that this is some attempt to help fans on tv recognize players more quickly. It's all kinda funny to me.
  3. So if it's "all Nike for the NFL" how will the problem change? Nike will just tell them what they have for options and make them pick from it. Just like they did with the olympic hockey jerseys in 2002. THey had the exclusive right and all of the jerseys were the same pattern and style with different crests and colors. The only real way to change is to let the TEAMS make their own contracts with their own jersey manufactures. Then see how quickly things change. Also, I have to agree with what was posted earlier. The group that hangs out on this forum is like 1/2 of 1 percent of hockey fans in the world. Most people could no more tell a real from a fake jersey than the difference between the airplanes flying above them in the sky. THey don't care as long as it has their team crest on the front. As to the blackout jerseys: This is an evermore popular fan night in all sports across the U.S. They have a blackout night and everybody wears black. This is clearly the start of that concept for hockey. I'll bet that whether the purists on this site like the jerseys or hate them, I bet they sell a boatload of them. They are trendy and very eye grabbing to the general public. They will be worn by people that would NEVER wear a regular jerysey. So Reebok has done what they set out to do which is increase sales. My 2 cents worth.
  4. All of the Penguins Gameworn jerseys are signed on the fight strap by the equipment manager Dana Heinz. I would guess that this is supposed to be something similar. The penguins don't use Meigray so they instead have a label sewn into the shirt tail specifiing when it was worn and then Dana signs the fight strap and they send a LOA to verify the jersey size and dates of use.
  5. The same seller is also selling the "First K" from the nameplate on the back. I can only guess that he somehow thinks that lot's of little pieces are better than the whole. Or, was the jersey damaged beyond repair and he bought it cheap and is trying to make a big buck on ignorant people?
  6. I'm wondering if wer'e comparing apples to apples. How many of you have 1.0 and 2.0 of the same jersey in the same size? I only have 1.0 jerseys and while they are the same size, they are different teams and I would swear that they are not the same size as they fit me completely different. The sleeves on my Flames jersey fits me way better than the sleeves on my PENS jersey because of the style and cut difference of the panels of fabric. So are ALL 2.0's the same, or are they as different in pattern as the 1.0's. It looks to me like the style of the PENS 2.0 looks the same as the 1.0 from what I can tell so wouldn't the measurements have stayed the same? Again, if some of you have the same jersey in the same size in the 2.0 and 1.0 let me know because I'm hoping to finally buy a 2.0 this year through one of the teams and I'm curious how big it will be on me.
  7. I agree you can do anything you want with you own jersey. I disagree with "Most people don't know when the player played or what uniform he wore". I think what most people don't know or care about is the level of authenticity that most of you guys care about. They buy a uniform because A) It's what they can find at the local fan store or stadium, B. Because it's the current style they recognize and C). It's most likely pre-customized. If the place offers customization, then they still can only pick from the stock uniforms which are most likely either the most popular of the old style or the newest styles, then they customize it with their all time favorite player i.e. Gretzky or Lemieux or the like. Also, It's funny to hear that some guys hear would rather watch the uniforms in the crowd than the game itself. That's when you know you are past taking this uniform thing to new levels of crazyiness. I think it's all good some of us want everything exactly right, and some of us just want to support the team while we WATCH the game. I'm somewhere in the middle. I just got my first Authentic uniform after spending hours reading on here. It's a flames home edge, and I got it customized with Iginla after much internal debate. I have strong personal leanings towards Fleury, I actually met him, he played some minor league games for my hometown team. I went so far as to research that he actually played in 5 preseason games in the original Edge 1.0 jersey, but in the end, I couldn't pull the trigger and put his name on it. So I went with Iginla and it's perfect except for the N in his name. It has one wrong part where the forward slash and the last upstroke meet. And now it's bugging me. I never would have noticed if it wasn't for all you Jersey crazy people.... So thanks a friggin lot!!!! So I don't make fun anymore, I just say to each their own, enjoy the jersey of your choice and love the game and your team.
  8. Just got my Iginla Flames Home jersey and it looks about perfect to me. My jersey is a size 54 and he wears a 56, I've compared mine to pictures of his from the Meigray website, and other than the obvious fact that my jersey is a little narrower, the fonts and lettering are spot on. I'm very pleased. Now I'm waiting for my Pens jersey to come. P.S. I've been talking to one customer service rep the whole time named Stacey and she has been absolutely awesome to work with. She emailed me when she shipped the jersey so I'd now to watch for it and been friendly and helpful throughout. I was really nervous about this as it's my first customized jersey and I've read all the horror stories on this forum.
  9. They came to Utah last summer on a multi band tour. My firestation is on the corner of the property where the concert was held. We were over there 5 or 6 times on medical calls.(we are also paramedics and run all the medical calls in the area). One of my crewmembers is a HUGE fan of dropkick so he asked if he could go watch the concert. I told him it was cool. The next thing I know, they saw him in his uniform and gave him a backstage pass, he hung out with the band for a while and after the concert they came over and hung out at the firestation for a bit. We took them for a ride in the Engine and traded tour shirts for our duty T-shirt. One of the band gave my crewmember his phone number as he's going to Boston next year for his 10th anniversary. Told him to call him and he'd set him up with things to do. Really class act band, I was very impressed.
  10. Yea, that was the first thing I noticed. I'd sent my penguins in to be customized so I didn't have it for a side by side, but when I tried on the flames,(they are both 54's) the sleeves fit me better because of the way the shoulder's are cut. So I was a little surprised to say the least, then I started to look closer and noticed all the differences. Thanks for the confirmation. For a minute I thought it was just me. When I get my Pens back it will be fun to see all the differences.
  11. Born and raised in the Hockey hotbed of Utah. Growing up my Dad got us hooked on the old IHL Salt Lake Golden Eagles. They ended up affiliated with the Calgary Flames for a period of time. Yes, I got to see Fleury play in Utah prior to the olympics, as well as watch Stu Grimson play and then met him at a PR event at our church for a Boy Scout program. He dressed up a kid in his gear and when he pulled out his garter belt he told us to ask our Mom's what it was for!!!!! Pretty funny for a church sponsered event. He was really cool and treated everyone great. I've loved him ever since. Secondly when cable tv became available my Dad wasn't too keen on paying for TV. But when he learned that the NHL was on contract with ESPN, and we could watch numerous games, he broke down and payed for it. One of the first teams I saw was the penguins and being a impressionable pre-teen, I LOVED the skating penguin jersey. They were my team from then on. My older and wiser brother told me how bad my team was but I didn't care. A couple of years later my Dad went to one of the only Hockey shops in Utah and ordered me a White and yellow home jersey. Great memories.
  12. So in reading through these posts on this site, I was under the impression that all of the Edge Jerseys were identical in cut and style. Obviously with the exception of the 1.0 and 2.0 being different materials. But today I just got my customized Flames Iginla home jersey and it's a totally different panel and stitch pattern than my Penguins Home jersey. THey are both 1.0's and completely authentic but the Penguins jersey has a much different cut especially around where the shoulders and armpits are sewn together. When I did more research and looked at Meigray photos and some other gameworn websites this has confirmed it for me that the Flames jersey and Penguins jersey have very different patterns. On my penguins Jersey the C for a captain would go right through a seam but that seam doesn't exist on my Flames jersey. I thought that was one of the complaints was that all these jerseys were identical blanks and took away from each teams ability to customize how they wanted to. Am I missing something here? Thanks again to all of you guys, this is a great passtime and I love the new jerseys I've bought this year. Have a good one.
  13. I just recieved my Iginla home jersey from RCS. I wanted to post pictures, but I can't seem to do it. Am I not allowed to attach pictures yet because I'm still so new? The only option I have is to add a http link. Thanks guys. I really like how it looks and want to show it.
  14. I'm a firefighter and I have a lot of buddies in the police force. Most governing bodies i.e. NCAA, NHL, NBA and NFL have a division that deals in counterfits. Recently one of my buddies on the police department was paid by the company that has the exclusive jersey rights for the University of Utah to go to the game and be undercover with one of their employees to confiscate from vendors any jerseys that were fake. He said they kept very busy and took a lot of merchandise. So I would say you could definately contact either your local police department with your suspicsions or the league. P.S. I'm now officially hooked on this jersey thing. My whole life I've wanted these things and now I finally have saved up some money and have the means to buy stuff. I've got my eye on a game issued or rookie camp gameworn jersey. (not actually gameworn from regular season, not THAT RICH yet) But maybe someday I'll pop on a bigger named player regular season gameworn sweater. Thanks for all your help on spotting this stuff!!
  15. I'm thinking the green band because A. you can't see it when it's worn and B. It looks like an unusual green that would be harder to counterfeit.
