Baseball Right Around the Corner

Or Spring Training is finally here.

After spending all of Spring Training last year and most of 2008 working around baseball. I am still too baseball'd out to get too excited over the new season just yet.

It didn't help that my favorite team, the White Sox dealt away my favorite player on the roster, Nick Swisher and seem to be in the midst of a retooling project. Now that I've left the Arizona, I'll see how much I really miss Chase Field this year if I happen to hit a game where I sit out in the Texas heat watching the Rangers at The Ballpark in Arlington.

Anyone have any predictions yet? Or just sick of the steroid talk? Or really excited for it to begin?

I'm excited for the season to start. Baseball was my constant companion last year as I came to grips with being out of work. It helps that the Twins are always in contention to keep me interested all year long.

Ever seen my baseball jersey collection?

Wow! That's a heckuva collection. I'm impressed by the number of game worn jerseys you have. Your Twins ended up signing Joe Crede didn't they? I think you'll like him up there, I liked him with the Sox.

I worked at Surprise Stadium last year, home of the Royals and Rangers Spring Training facility. I have a good feeling about the Royals Their new manager, Trey Hillman is a very nice guy and there seemed to be a positive atmosphere last year surrounding the team. I've started following both the Royals and Rangers quite closely. If the Rangers could ever get more out of their pitching, they'll be a team to beat.

With the Tribe picking up Kerry Wood, color me less than impressed with Cleveland's offseason. Waaay too much hockey to go before I get ramped up for baseball though (94 really killed off most of my interest sadly).

I am happy with the A's offseason on the offensive side, getting Holliday from the Rockies, signing Giambi, signing Cabrera, and close to a deal with Nomar. I do have some concerns about the pitching staff, but those concerns usually disappear real quick since the A's do a great job of developing the pitching on their team.

I am looking forward to 30 May when I drive down to Arlington to watch the A's play their only weekend series against the Rangers though.

I live in Cincinnati - our only hope of victory in any sport comes from an ECHL team with a horrible logo
