How to spot a fake jersey!

Recommended Posts

How would you identify a fake sochi olympic jersey?

I'm assuming you mean USA jerseys, in that case: bad customization, oversized striping (particularly white jersey), too large of a crest, fight strap, wrong colors, etc...

Fake. Retail authentics were never made, and the lettering in the name looks wrong. Pretty sure the '8's are wrong too

ETA: Retail authentics were made, for Team Canada. But no other country, as far as I'm aware

Long time lurker and a huge fan of everyone that's on this board. Lots of great info!

Wondering what your thoughts are on this ebay listing:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pro-NHL-New-York-Rangers-CALLAHAN-REEBOK-EDGE-Jersey-Size-52-w-FIGHT-STRAP-/181630514368?pt=U_Hockey_Fan_Shop&hash=item2a4a05b4c0

I've been waffling back and forth as the Rangers WC jerseys were 7287, had felt letter and #'s. This jersey seems legit but maybe had bad customization as its 7187 and the letters and #'s look like twill/fabric. Thoughts?

The jersey is actually a 7287; don't be fooled by the size tag, which says 7187 regardless of whether the jersey is a 1.0 or 2.0.

The resolution in the photos is so poor that I couldn't be absolutely sure that the lettering was NOT felt. You could try asking the seller, if that's important to you.

Jersey is real and legit but way over priced. You can probably find one for $50-$100 if you wait it out a little

Hi guys,

New on this forum and to serious collecting, as far as researching authenticity. I've got 5 Stars authentic jerseys including the one below that I just purchased. It was sold as a new, old stock (in sealed bag with tag attached) 1993-1994 Dallas Stars authentic. It also came from eBay, so it was a gamble, but I can't complain about the quality even if it's not legit.

The markings seem right and the tags look their age, but I'm hoping someone here can give me a more seasoned opinion.

Here are the photos from the auction. Note that there were two bagged jerseys, one opened for the auction photos, and the other for sale (the one I have now). The jersey from the auction photos lacks the shoulder patches and has a different neck tag (Maska airknit instead of CCM), so I'm guessing that one was a pre-1993 (Minnesota) version?

If you're looking for the utmost in customization accuracy, the North Stars jersey in the eBay auction should be considered strictly a 1992-93, as it's made of air-knit. The 1991-92's were made of ultrafil. (You would also need different patches for both seasons.)

Speaking of customization, am I likely to find a company to do an authentic Modano customization on the 93-94 Dallas jersey? My guess is 'no'.

Was it Blakes all the way back then?

Some of you probably saw this already...the fight strap stitching, and all the other stitching for that matter, are a dead give. Unless I've completely lost it, looks fake as hell!

I bid on it...lol. Just kidding. I'm going to have to watch this one...cant wait to see how much it actually sells for. My guess is 600ish...

There was another dude this morning selling a game worn Crosby winter classic jersey with the fake "MeiGrayGroop" tag in it...I had to call him on it.

Yeah, I know I'm new here but I need some help. I'm looking for a early 90's KOHO St. Louis Blues jersey and found this:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-KOHO-MADE-IN-CANADA-ST-LOUIS-BLUES-AUTHENTIC-GAME-JERSEY-IN-SIZE-56-/221744896172?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item33a10698ac

Curious, I have a bunch of pictures of game worn KOHO's and I really don't have the best eye to determine if it's authentic/fake/replica/or whatever .

Thanks.....LTZ

Koho did not actually make NHL jerseys in the 1990's. The jersey in the auction is a legit authentic, made between 2000-2004.
