Shenanigans
I'd just like to point out that there is no way in hell Tampa lets Stamkos go. Even if it puts them over the cap, they will hold on to him at all costs.
Brilliant!
Yeah, I don't see that happening either. They came within a goal of the Stanley Cup Finals this year. With a solid goaltender, that team is going places and probably fairly soon too. There's no way they let go of Stamkos.
orangecrush8
The Flyers cant go after Stamkos. When you sign someone to an offer sheet and you give the team picks as compensation, they have to be your OWN picks. They cant be another team's picks acquired in a trade
orangecrush8
+1, I have a Richards Edge 1.0 and Edge 2.0 in Black... I will keep the 2.0 but will sell the 1.0 for jersey (cap) space. lol. I wouldn't mind Stamkos if it was for long term and a decent cap hit. Yep I have two Richards jerseys, one white 2.0 and the other the new road jersey. Pretty ticked about that. Im probably going to try and move the 2.

orangecrush8
Picks would be starting in 2012, which we have. Man, you're right. I take back what I said then haha. I was caught up with this years draft Although I like the idea of Weber more. Less money, and we will need defense badly in a few years

xcdude
Team Pronger won! HAHAHAHA This is a high risk high reward move. Could blow up in their face, hope it does! I odn't even know how to analyze this properly because they just traded away 2/3 of their top line.
bluejacket
I hope Voracek works out for you guys. He is a very frustrating player to watch and seems to miss wide open nets at the worst time but I still believe that he is going to be a very good player for years to come and maybe a change is what he needs. sungod661
Bottom line was the team supported Pronger and not Richards and Carter. Pronged has had a few run ins with both and there has been a power struggle ever since Pronger arrived on scene. This has been confirmed by several flyers and a 2 beat writers I thought trading Carter would have been enough to squash whatever issues existed but it seems as though acording to rumors Richards would have been stripped of his captaincy and asked to be dealt! The bryzgalov signing is a head scratched to me seems like they again have a unproven playoff goalie!!! They got a good returN on both players but holmgren just gambled his GM career. The flyers will be a great young team but I doubt will win the cup this year having lost about 140 points and 70 goals. But great returns time will tell
flyhighguys94
Orangecrush let me know about the white 2.0 jersey. Im optimistic, things are still in the works so im not too worried. Personally i hate carter. There is a picture of him partying with my girlfriend's uncle during the 2010 playoffs. ###### couldnt play but he could go party. Richards was a good leader but if he has beef with everyone in the lockeroom then smell ya later. I hope Versteeg and Carle are gone next. Im not sold on Bryz though. cowboys
Yes I am shocked on this deal I have not heard about Richards just Carter but if it helps the team win in the end then its good . I am in for any Flyers edge 2 blanks or ?????
jerseymikea
I'm actually hearing these trades could be due to some substance abuse problems... On csnphilly.com fans are joking about some of the "Old City" bars in Philly facing financial problems now... It seems the speculation (by many) that hockey became secondary to "Nightlife" with these guys was taken into consideration by management as well. As a professional, you just can't post photos (or allow photos of yourself posted) with adult beverages and "hot women" on facebook and myspace. When your performance slips just a little, it opens the door to criticism, be it warranted or not.
bluejacket
Iv heard that about Voracek. How would you compare him to Zherdev? Just so I can get a basis of what to expect Jake is a better passer and better on D but he is no where near the finisher and skater Zherdev can be at times. Some of the nicest goals I have every seen scored come from the stick of Zherdev. But over all I think Jake will be a much better player then Zherdev in a couple of years. I have a soft spot for both of these players but their trades have made the Jackets a better team end the end.
sungod661
I just did a little digging in the rumor mill some great rumors can be found on deadpan concerning the flyers. This is what I have gathered through reading about 15 different articles on the flyers and the locker room mess. Jeff Carter was out of favor for 2 reasons 1- he was photgraphed pRtying during the playoffs but was too injured to play (this is factual) 2- he apparently boned Scott Hartnel's ex wife ( who by the way I'm sure you guessed is smoking!!!) As for MIke Richards he was ran out of town for 3 reasons 1- which is factual he and Pronger got into to a dust up when Richards came to practice under the weather after a night of partying Pronger apparently tried to talk to Richards about his own experiences with women and partYing and was basically told he didn't need al liers and adulter's advice. 2-apparently he created the "party pad" which was a place where many flyers players used to do their business with women including some escorts source deadpan 3-he was to be stripped of the captaincy and asked out -deadspin All in all the bruins proved that sometimes you need to remove a problem even if it hurts you in the short run (Joe thorton) I guess we will see
JohnnyOnTheSpot
I'm still sad. Apparently their off the ice problems are pretty well known...but I still don't want to see Richards on another team.
Sluggermatt15
Richards wasn't a good captain, IMO. He was involved in too much off-the-ice hoopla, especially the partying. Honestly, IMO if you're a CAPTAIN of a team you are supposed to lead by EXAMPLE and maintain a level of responsibility that Richards did NOT demonstrate. Timonen should be the captain, IMO. The guy plays hard, gives effort, contributes on offense and defense, and is NOT an off-the-ice distraction. Makes perfect sense to me. I think Holmgren/Snider are headed in the right direction with these trades. Goes to show that NO player's job is safe no matter who they are or how well/not well they play. The next moves IMO should be to trade Hartnell, Shelly, Lapierriere, and Carcillo, so the Flyers can nearly shed their previous image of the goon squad. They get rid of these guys and replace them with REAL hockey players, then they are a legit club who is focused on winning instead of fighting and hitting. IBleedUnionBlue
I'm a huge Voracek fan, but as a Union Blue bleeding CBJ fan, I am happy to get a #1 center in Columbus. I have just a twinge of concern regarding Phily trading him & Richards on the same day. I think its more then a salary cap issue. Hoping Carter can come to CBus and be a professional on and off the ice. Edited June 24, 2011 by naphtali
DropkickMurphy8
This is unbelievable, I never expected to see this. But as a Rangers fan, glad I don't have to see them 12 times a year anymore.
orangecrush8
Im still in shock. The Carter deal, whatever we got a good return for him and Iv never been a Carter fan But the Richards deal, it will sicken me to see him on another team. And Flyers fans, mark the date of October 15 on the calender. The Kings are in Philly and its only the 4th game of the year. I can see it already, Richards gets the tying goal and wins it in overtime. That trade will haunt the Flyers for years to come. Just a stupid stupid move

I am almost certain this came from the big man Snider.... Holmgren may have pulled the trigger but Snider was holding the gun to the head. JohnnyOnTheSpot
Look, I'm going to say this. I don't know how many of you Flyers fans are from near or around the Fishtown area, but it's pretty much common knowledge that the duo was buying a lot of stuff from local bars. Apparently Richards in particular has some problems with pain killers. Snyder knows this, got pissed, gave him the boot. If this is all true, I hope it saves his life. No I'm not joking. Until recently, I had never once heard of any type of drug problem with Richards. Never. The things I heard was that he would party a lot and that some players on the team (Pronger, Briere ect) wanted him and other players to take things more seriously. I mean it was reported that Briere asked Giroux to move in with him so he wouldn't fall into the same trap that Richards and Carter did. I hope this move helps him with whatever issues he is having. I feel bad for him because he was put in a tough spot in Philly immediately. From the day he was drafted he was known as "the next Bobby Clarke". No pressure at all right? They gave the C to him too early, and it sure looked like it got to him. I can comfortably say I think Richards' best year was his breakout season in 07-08. At that time he wasnt counted on to be "the guy". Now he is, and he just really isnt that kind of player. LA will be the perfect fit for him. He wont have to deal with the media pressure and look at the talent he has around and in front of him. I hope he flourishes with the Kings. domestique
Johnny and Orange, I've heard both things (moe about substance and partying with Carter than Richards, but it is also alleged that richie had a Stag pad for players to bring mistresses and call girls over... and than there is the allegation that Carter slept with Hartnell's ex-wife. I agree with Orange that there was a lot of pressure put on Richies' shoulders but I also get the feeling Lavy wasn't the easiest coach to deal with. I am sad to see Richards go but if in 5 years from now we can look back on this and see that it was the best move for both him and the flyers than I'm glad he was traded.... It will still be tough to see him ever lift the cup for anohter team. The real losers are going to be Timmo, Pronger, and Breire that may have lost there chance at the cup while we are by all intensive means heading to a rebuilding phase. This also looks bad for Holmgren for ever trying to sign future Tier-1 players to a home town discount contract with the promise of long term and not being moved. His credibility right now is in the gutter (not all his fault as I'm sure the uppper brass "Snider" had a lot to do with it. Edit: I just listened to the Preston and Steve podcast.... that was some tough listening. http://www.wmmr.com/shows/preston-and-steve/blogentry.aspx?BlogEntryID=10254390
