Skid Mark
One of the new rule changes for the 2013-14 season is a penalty if a player has any part of his jersey tucked into his pants like Wayne Gretzky made famous. First, the player will be warned, then a penalty, then misconducts will be issued. Many are speculating that this is a prelude to future advertising on the jerseys. Isn't there enough ads on the boards, they are digitizing ads onto the glass for TV viewers. I really hope the NHL doesn't take this to the cheapness of European clubs. The NHL needs to keep a level of class and keep itself looking like its a better league then the KHL or others. Thoughts?....

thebiggoalie
Can you imagine what our "patch thread" would look like?
Girouxsalem
I doubt it. Considering the NHL is still trying to reach the level of the NFL, MLB etc, putting adds on jerseys just seems to contradict their goals
thecapn
I would hate ads...but maybe we could now see some new jersey design ideas? Nameplates on the bottom of numbers instead of the top? Alt logos on the back? If done well, it could be interesting. Doubt that was the point of the rule, just saying Reebok could exploit it for some new ideas.

TMLFAN
Not gonna happen. The other major sports don't do it so the NHL won't either.
CJ Matthews
I had heard something about NBA starting it sometime within the next few years as well not too long ago.

Skid Mark
Can you imagine what our "patch thread" would look like? Haha...can you imagine a big Wonder Bread patch under Crosby's 87. No pro league generates the revenue like the NFL. So its not impossible. We would have to have a patch thread for each team! There has been talk in the past, in fact I was talking with Barry from Meigray about this at a Caps expo a few years back, about the game jerseys being dye sublimated, this would lighten the jersey and prevent number changes and would be cheaper. If this happens you can sure bet you would see a SONY logo on the front shoulder, It won't be long that NHL jerseys will look like Dynamo jerseys. EPL, Cutting Edge and all others better start a Union!!!
BPerkins
It isn't a new rule. It is enforcement of an old rule. That said, ads are unlikely in the near term although they exist on practice jerseys for both the NFL and NHL already.
