jsh139
Sounds like it's pretty much official. I just don't see how a team can sustain itself in Vegas. Unless the casinos step in and buy up all the season tickets or the arena is within walking distance to the strip. I mean, yeah, people may go to a game where their team is playing against the Knights, but that's not going to be a solid business plan. I would have rather seen a resurrection of the Nordiques. Quebec City peeps are getting the shaft, IMO. At least they'll probably have cool jerseys!
mfitz804
My thought is, can an NHL franchise succeed based almost totally (at least initially) on tourists coming to games because they happen to be in Vegas. Then I remember how much Britney Spears brings in doing essentially the same thing. Maybe it would work!! Las Vegas Sigfrieds, put the white tiger on the jerseys. Genius. jsh139
Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. It would be mostly tourism. Las Vegas isn't very populated outside of the immediate area. The wife dragged me to that Britney show the last time we were out there. It was surprisingly entertaining. But don't tell her I said that! Thousands of husbands and boyfriends will go to Black Knights games just because of what their wives/girlfriends made them sit through! mfitz804
Only if the nickname for the team's fans is the "Ace-holes".
Jdems93
The stadium itself is just off the strip. On top of that I think many underestimate The ability of the Vegas locals to sustain and support a local team. The first couple of seasons they may rely on the tourist aspect but should they excel on the ice, they will develop a strong stable fan base. Silverback53
No Quebec? "Bummer, this is a bummer." Hockey would be the only thing real in Vegas.

Jdems93
I don't see how your comparison to an ihl team, that was disbanded due to them not having a place to play is valid?

robersong88
No, here in Las Vegas (and I do jest about the Devils, I knew quite a few of them way back-Good guys). There is a large homegrown support that drummed up 14-15000 season ticket holders without even having a team. I grew up right in Devils territory (and played for the Devils Youth club) and know that the support for the team has dwindled, especially after they moved to Downtown Newark. No one want's to go to downtown Newark. Everyone wants to go to the Las Vegas Strip! I'm looking forward to catching quite a few games down at the "T". Newark is just like Vegas, just take out the desert and casinos and add in more stabbin'.

Damnn, you ain't kidding. I went to see the Flyers play the Devils and we ate at an Applebees in downtown Newark before the game. It was an interesting experience to say the least. The arena was nice, though. Edited June 17, 2016 by jsh139
mfitz804
Very nice arena. But safe to say, I was not a fan of the move. I have cut way back on the number of games I go to, but that's mostly due to having a kid and changes in life circumstances rather than Newark being a giant crack den. Devilsguy
Area around the arena is no more dangerous than the area immediately around MSG. The rougher parts of Newark are away from the arena. plus over the years they have added more restaurants, bars and hotels so there are more options of things to do before or after the game. DC Red Wings
You devils fans derail all the threads around here. Really hoping Vegas doesn't have the same color scheme as Pittsburgh, kind of seems like they will though. There's crappy parts of Newark two blocks from the arena. There is no comparison to the area around MSG, where the only danger is a Rangers "fan" whapping you in the knee with their briefcase as they rush to the game. Last year I saw a guy steal a purse off a woman and run down the block only to get tackled by an officer. Happened literally right in front of the entrance to Penn Station of MSG. Wandered a few blocks off of Prudential Center and while it is not the greatest, not a whole lot different than the area around MSG.
