MIGHTY-DUCKS8
Does anyone know anything about this? Last i knew the Ducks had one in their front office? Could this be a second set? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Paul-Kariya-Anaheim-Mighty-Ducks-Game-Worn-Alternate-Wildwing-Jersey-/331510430287?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4d2f8fba4f

mfitz804
I love that he is starting the bidding for a shirt at nearly $10,000 and he asks an additional $12.65 for shipping. I mean really, if someone's gonna spend that much, ship it for free dude.
mfitz804
I'm signing out of eBay before I check out the link. I shudder to think of an oopsie bid. That'd be a big oopsie.
AngeloS76
Did Kariya ever wear a 54-G?
chow_hound
He was a size 52 his whole career from what ive seen out there. Would be VERY careful with this one.
shandy_man
I wouldn't be shocked if he did wear the 54. He's done so on a few occasions for one off jerseys like the All Star game. Considering this was the Ducks first alternate and only worn for a few game, they may have just given him what they had if 52's weren't readily avail.I'd really love to bid on that jersey though
sungod661
LOL total b.s, i was thinking keeping my mouth shut but i guess ill chime in...as a few already know i have the ONLY game worn kariya wild wing jersey that is game worn and it is photo matched and has a loa from meigrey so please if anyone is going to spend there money do not.....this is a scam
mfitz804
Also it seems unlikely that one would not have a COA/LOA for a $10,000 jersey that is probably one of the rarer, more desired jerseys out there. Sungod, can you verify that yours is in fact a size 52?
chow_hound
Its not just a size 54 but a 54g (goalie cut). Im pretty positive a franchise player wouldnt be asked to wear a left over size... That being said stranger things have happened but without a photo match to the wear i would be very leary dropping 10K.
thecapn
Could it have been stripped from a different game worn? 54-G is so random though. Don't see any signs of stripping...maybe a team-issued that's had Kariya added and been artificially worn?
mfitz804
Very odd. I did a Google Images search, watched some video clips, and not one of them showed Kariya wearing a Wild Wing with the "A" in that position. There's one where it overlaps the stick a little, and one where it seems to be completely off, and one where there is no "A" at all. This old thread from 4 years ago states that Kariya sometimes had the A, and sometimes didn't. So did they remove it and put it back in a slightly different spot, or did they have two separate jerseys for him? Does sungod's have an A? In what position? None of this explains why he'd have a 54-G. Anyway, you would have to be nuts to drop $10K on a jersey based just on faith, where the seller has no provenance. Of course, spending $10K on a jersey with proper paperwork is TOTALLY not nuts at all Edited March 26, 2015 by mfitz804
Nathan
I'm aware of one additional goalie cut jersey out there, size 54G specifically, of a goalie named Byron Penstock. He did not play in the NHL, but was in the Ducks system in 1995-96. I believe the jersey was #30.
cfrobel
The Secondary Jersey patch does not appear to exactly match one from a gamer either, especially noticable in the black line right above the eye opening of the mask:

MountainKing
I talked to the seller a bit to get some history on how he got the jersey and he got it as a part of a lot from another collector. He says the other collector is reputable but the facts in this thread obviously tell us all what this jersey is. Best I can tell it does not seem like the seller has any malicious intent, he actually seems pretty clueless in terms of jerseys and jersey detail. This is a case where a potential buyer does need to do his homework but the seller also should be doing his homework, selling something that is not legit for that price could open yourself up for some trouble that you really didn't want. There's no way I would ever list something at that price without knowing exactly what I was selling.
mfitz804
Yeah if he had malicious intent he would have priced it lower, made it look like a bargain for a quicker sell. But he definitely seems to not have knowlegde as to what he's got.
Reivax
The stitching on that fight strap looks done by hand. Which would be strange since it sure looks like a legit authentic goalie cut to me. :/ why would the strap be faked in that case. sungod661
Which would be strange since it sure looks like a legit authentic goalie cut to me. :/ why would the strap be faked in that case. Because the spare jerseys i have seen came without fight straps, Rickey bought one on eBay a while back if my memory serves me right it had no fight strap. So i think it is a legit spare that some lettered up with chary and added a fight strap. Don't get me wrong it still a nice jersey worth about 1 to 1.5 k. but this is not a game worn jersey of paul kariya
EvilRocketeer
The jersey came from one of the best Anaheim Ducks game worn jersey collections....collector had some of the rarest jerseys in the MD business.... The original wild wing jerseys didnt come with LOA's from Meigray, but letters of authenticity from the ducks organization (community relations department). There is never a guarantee one jersey was used by one player. Several key players could have more than one jersey. Kariya did not wear the A throughout all six games the jersey was worn. The A was moved on and off several times (see pictures below). There can be a possiblity the ebay jersey was only used during one game. Instead of sewing the A back on, a ready made jersey was available. Why the goalie cut? I didnt notice it until you guys pointed it out. Maybe the equipment manager made the same mistake and only checked the size. A world of possibilites and only one can speculate what could had happened. The equipment manager is the best person to ask. As for the secondary patch logo, the logo on ebay listing matches the logo with the Inaugural jerseys. The ducks mask had more a connect the dots pattern which doesnt show up on the mcsween. Actually looks like the mcsween thread had came off a tad bit. Also the fight strap on the game worn wild wing mcsween seems to match the ebay kariya. Here is a list of games the jersey was worn: Anaheim Ducks WILD WING JERSEY DATES1/27 4-5 loss against Los Angeles:Corkum, Karpa, D. Sacco, Dollas, T. Ewen, Hicks, J. DJ Rhea
Judging by the photos with the A I'd call that a match.
