lafountain
This was a requested thread. If you are looking at a jersey on ebay and are unsure of the legitimacy on it, feel free to post a link here and the fellow members can help you judge it. For those that offer up their opinions, if you say it is fake, please state why it is so that we can help everyone here learn a bit more about how to notice things. I love the idea so at least we can educate on how to spot fakes! That way at least we can hit the counterfieters where it hurts......by showing people how to spot them and have less people buying thier stuff
capsfan32
Okay folks, it appears that this is the first set of these to be posted to this thread (rather than possibly getting lost in the general EBay thread), so please dissect: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=150394079001 (Kings Gretzky) http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=150394056969 (Jets Essensa) http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=150394051690 (Capitals Ridley) The seller has others that, depending on whether these pass muster, people might also be interested in, but these caught my attention, especially the Ridley. Brilliant!
All three of those jerseys look good. I don't like the custom job on the Ridley one though. The numbers on the back are way too thin. That said though, once again, they're all legitimate and very nice jerseys.
HawksFan719
http://cgi.ebay.com/Hartford-Whalers-Mens-...=item19b831f351 ok I know this is a completed auction, but the guy sent me a 2nd chance offer. reason it's suspect to me is that there was 3 other guys besides the winner that outbid me, so I find it a little odd that this guy has all these 20 year old Whalers jerseys with tags just laying around. Believe it or not, it might be legit. I was out bid on a Sakic number kit. I was offered a second chance bid as well but never did it. HawksFan719
I can see that, I mean number kits can be made in any amount if you have the materials. but the fact that there's 3 people besides the winner of this jersey that outbid me means this guy has at least 5 of these, seems kind of weird for something that rare. capsfan32
All three of those jerseys look good. I don't like the custom job on the Ridley one though. The numbers on the back are way too thin. That said though, once again, they're all legitimate and very nice jerseys. I received more pics of the jersey from the seller, the stars look great and of course the only reason I even bid was that they used to individually sew on each star and letter to the sleeves and front back then rather than just screening or heat-pressing the stars on and going with a crest patch instead of the letters as they really could have- doing this probably increased the production costs for Maska/CCM to make the Caps jerseys over producing them for other teams, so I think that the Caps jerseys from that era were somewhat unique in that respect. Based on the additional pics the seller graciously emailed me, the numbers are indeed a bit thin- but out of politeness since he had done me a favour by taking additional pics and emailing them, I didn't ask where it was customized, although 1 and 7 could be considered somewhat "thin" numbers to begin with for any jersey, depending on the font used. Beyond the thin numbers, I also don't recall Ridley ever wearing the A for the Caps, but tracking down an accurate list of assistants/alternates has been pretty hard. Wikipedia has a list, but I don't think it's entirely accurate. I know the Ducks have a year-by-year list posted on their official team site, but I looked and the Caps don't have such a list on the team site. A Getty images search for Ridley mostly shows him as a Canuck- there is one of him as a Cap, but it doesn't show whether he had an A or not. If I had won this, because I don't think having the A is accurate, I was considering either keeping it as-is with the too-narrow numbers and simply removing the A or getting it changed to a Gartner since he wore the A and had #11, so all IJ would have to do is the name/nameplate and change out the 7s for 1s, assuming the changes wouldn't show too visibly, or having the customization redone entirely with someone with a higher number that would cover over the changes if they'd be visible with using Gartner. Meanwhile, check out what it's going to sell for- it's now at $535.00 with about 10 hours left. I gave up on it about $200 ago- this is now way out of my price range for a great, but still imperfect jersey.

PensJerseys
http://cgi.ebay.com/Mario-LEMIEUX-Pittsbur...=item3ca829ce3f Not sure how to feel about this one. Not saying it's fake..but what's the deal? Looks like the 80's jersey, but did they really use that crest at one point? It looks like the one they used on the replicas. No captains C means this is a pre 1987 jersey. Thoughts? Jerseys before the 90's confuse me so much since it doesn't seem like there was much of a standard. Brilliant!
Excellent jersey; horrible custom job. The jersey itself is legit from the 1989-90 season hence the CCM logo without the NHL shield. The lettering and numbers though...no way. It looks like the style that the Pens wore before switching in 1989. It should look like this: If you have the patience, it might be a good cleanup project but there's no guarantee that those letters(no nameplate on there either) and numbers will come off cleanly. Brilliant!
That looks good to me. I have seen size 50 in the old CCM's occasionally. I think I have a few actually.

bupz91
hey guys, just won this today for a whopping 10 dollars. Obviously the customization job is horrible and will be stripped, and I don't really care about the autograph, but do you guys think the ccm replica is legit? The only thing that looked a little off to me is the ccm and lightning logo seem a little far in the middle on the back. Anyway just looking for some input. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...e=STRK:MEWNX:IT
