IIHFjerseycollector
I know that if Nike had stayed in the NHL, there were going to get more teams the next year. Tampa Bay and Buffalo were two of them. I can't recall the others. why did they leave the NHL in the first place? Now that they are almost completely out of hockey, do you have any other inside info you could share thats similar to this?
JimmyGagner
why did they leave the NHL in the first place? Now that they are almost completely out of hockey, do you have any other inside info you could share thats similar to this? why do you think I would have any inside info? LOL, just kidding. I've been trying to remember the teams Nike would have gotten and I believe they would have been Buffalo, Tampa, NY Rangers, Columbus, Vancouver, and either Dallas or Boston. In a nutshell, the reason Nike bailed on NHL, NFL and NBA was they wanted an all league deal, exactly the same deal Rbk now has. The leagues wanted to spread the wealth around and Nike took an all or nothing stance and walked. In the NHL, Nike wanted to be able to retail replicas and authentics for non-Nike teams and the NHL wouldn't let them. The number one money maker in hockey is jerseys. If you can only sell 6 teams, you gotta sell a boatload to make it worthwhile. Also, Nike as a company has never seen hockey as a valued added component to the brand and never really backed it like they should/could have. Buying Bauer was just a way to legitimize themselves being in the market, plus it gave them a built-in product and production base in the beginning. Brilliant!
Now I'm gonna be fantasizing about Rangers Nike jerseys from the late 1990's. GAH!! Unfortunately, we'd be in the same situation we're in now if Nike HAD stayed because it would all be Swift garbage rather than EDGE.
akteon
why do you think I would have any inside info? LOL, just kidding. Did you work for Nike or something? I met a guy who worked for Nike Hockey in the mid/late 90's that had some great prototype jerseys. He had a Nike Rangers prototype that unfortunately I couldn't get him to sell me. He did provide me with some really great Nike jerseys from the 96 World Cup, including my two blue USA jerseys that were never sold for retail. He had some great stories too. Truth be told, I designed all the jerseys for Nagano 98 and worked on the NHL also.

JimmyGagner
We should start a thread over in the Design Studio section or somewhere, so we don't hijack. I can answer and post over there.

JeffB
You can get a steal on game issueds at ball stadiums. I've heard some are let go For 99 bucks at some stadiums. Don't know if hockeys the same. I work at the main team store at Target Field for the Twins and we have all kinds of game worn jerseys for $100. A pretty good deal when a blank authentic is $215 and people still gripe about how expensive they are. Especially the wives. I look them in the eye and tell them it's less than a pair of shoes. THAT usually shuts them right up.
