Word of the day: Replithentic...

I like it. I bet it catches on with the type of sellers that see a tag on a jersey that says "XL", but lists the jersey as a size"52" because they actually measured it like that. I am almost ready to quit this hobby.

Just stay off of EBay, it's full of fake garbage. If you want to buy cheap counterfeit Chinese and Korean made jerseys, go to EBay.

There has to be a third way. Perhaps this BB is the way to "true" jersey enlightenment?

Unfortunately, Ebay is how I got about 80% of my collection. I only want about 3 more jerseys and I would be happy to bow out. I would however stay on this forum just because of all the great people that have actually made this a fun and exciting hobby. I seriously think the NHL would learn some marketing tips if they investigated this board and saw what it is that turns collectors on and what doesn't. They should simply investigate Ebay and cut out all of the knockoff BS and realize that the Edge idea was a horrible one.

I think it's getting more difficult to find a quality jersey on Ebay. Seems like I go through god knows how many pages to even find ONE good jersey! But with the money I take in, I can't afford to buy them all that often anyway. Curse disguised as a blessing perhaps?

Could be interesting

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...atchlink:top:en

The material is funny but I know that they did used it in their first season in 1995-96 because I saw good pics of Patrick Roy with a jersey made out of this material. I also think it's the only team that have used this material, at least for a whole jersey.

On the other hand, the starter logo on the back is not the same as what they used in their first season (at least according to NHLuniforms.com). And the description is mysterious: ''It is used but not worn much, so it is in almost like new condition'' or ''Overall it is a great jersey''.

The material is called "mesh". The Rangers, Blues and Penguins had the same jersey material when they were supplied by Starter. But the Penguins had that only for a half season

The Starter mesh authentic jerseys are great. The Avalanche not only wore mesh Starter jerseys, but apparently they were the only team who wore mesh ProPlayer jerseys. All the other teams had switched to knit.

As for the Starter logo, it changed over time, especially on Avs jerseys since they were the first to wear Starter:

Pics were taken from this post on another board that gives an amazing history of NHL authentic and replica jerseys.

Thanks. I'm not really good with the name of the material. Now that you say it, I remember seeing mesh material on some Rangers jerseys.

I think it would be a good idea to make a list of the company logos and material used for NHL jerseys year by year. At least for late 90's to today. Because those things were changing a lot during that period.

I'd almost call it a war of attrition because only the most nutso would stick around in the game that long. It makes the hunt that much more challenging, and when a real prize is found, it's worth that much more because of all the drek that you had to go through to find it.

But the skills you develop in picking out finer details becomes invaluable. During the Superbowl commercials, the one for "Race to Witch Mountain" came on, and for that split second when the two Stormtroopers entered The Rock's cab, I immediately identified the helmets they were wearing. Certain things like shape of the face, details around the eyes and proportions can instantly identify a particular helmet type, if you know what to look for.

Just like with jerseys. If you know what you're looking for, you can quickly identify those characteristic within a heartbeat, and that -- while frustrating to sort through the bargain bin of garbage -- can be very worthwhile in the end.

And a call to arms for ebay has been sounded!

Pardon me if this question is stupid, since I'm asking it after everyone has soundly panned ebay. I'm rather new to the game and you all have got me scared now. Anyway, the price on this jersey seems too good to be true so I was hoping to verify that with you guys. So what do you make of this listing?

I was never a big fan of that All-Star jersey, and I've never seen one up front - so I am probably not the best judge on that specific jersey, even though didn't see any red flag issues with it. However, I did take a look at the other jerseys he has offered and I think I may have even bought from him in the past. I think he's a legit seller.

I love how the seller of the Oilers jersey includes in the auction: "Feel free to ask any questions"

Yep...I have plenty of questions for you as far as what you did to that perfectly good jersey. What did that thing ever do to you?

Another atrocity. Gotta love the lack of flash when taking the pic of the autograph.

The description is great too -

"This is a thin jersey does not look to be official issue maybe a 'throwback' however, I am not familiar with NHL just NFL.

But it is a nice piece. Bought from the secondary marketplace years ago and never displayed in a sports bar. Been stored. Certificate was lost. "
