jersey itself shouldnt be fake, its more that Neely didnt wear that jersey and I think the patch is on for the wrong year

When you say wear that jersey you mean the RBK bradnded one yes? Cam wore the Pooh Bear Style jersey, but that patch wasn't worn on the jersey as the B's stopped wearing the patch after the all star game and the jersey didn't make its debut until after that occasion.

Oh come on now...where you been? Don't you remember that CCM made those SPECIAL jerseys in 1994 that had the CCM patch on the front? The Canucks had them and so did the Flyers. DUH!

I was stoked to find a pre-customized Dale Hunter in red, even though it's a 550 "vintage" remake and therefore has the "crest" patch I can't stand... until I saw the actual customization: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=270532758471 - see 2nd pic especially.

To be honest, that jersey doesn't look legit to me for some reason. Also check out the sellers name "knoff" which might be a short term for "knock off":lol:

Fake Hunter Jersey on DhGate

It has recently been pointed out that the "vintage" 550s (along with Rimouski Oceanics) are one of the new "trends" in fakes. The seller's name of "knoff25" definitely made me somewhat suspicious, as does the description of this one being a "Size 52 (XL)" since legitimate "vintage" 550s are only sized by letter, not numbers [although it's still tolerably forgivable that someone less familiar with the product they're selling than most of us are with it might list it with both], but this one being on DHGate absolutely serves as confirmation, so steer clear and watch for more likely to come since it's now on DHGate. I hope for his/her sake, the lone bidder on this will see this thread and cancel their bid, but if the positively awful customization job on the name/numbers wasn't enough to deter them from bidding in the first place, I'm not sure the jersey being fake would either.

The interesting part is, because it purports to be a "vintage" 550, I can also forgive the use of the "crest" patch on it, as much as I detest them, because for some reason I cannot fathom (other than CCM reducing their production costs since jersey manufacturing is a business) they're "supposed" to be that way for the Capitals 550s, which annoys me to no end. My theory is that with replicas, if you're going to bother replicating what they wear or wore... at least make it look authentic, regardless of production cost. That also applies to the Caps M&Ns which also are made using a "crest" patch, and to the crest patch on this year's upcoming "throwback" Devils "tree" jerseys, which I had been interested in, but am now undecided on. With the Caps 550s, even if CCM had decided to make each letter, stick, and puck that comprise the "crest" portion of the jersey, along with the various stars, into individual heat-transfer patches and glue/iron them on one by one rather than individually sewing each component of the "assembled crest" and the stars the way they really should have [based on what CCM did in making my white vintage-style jersey actually made in the mid-1980s with Maska Airknit - prior to the use of "Ultrafil" on the replicas], I'd still prefer that over the "crest" patch they're using, because while the "assembled crest" components and stars still wouldn't be attached to the jersey in the most optimal manner if done as individual patches, the jersey would still look a lot more like the actual on-ice product than it does with the use of the "crest" patch.

As for this one, the A on the front almost looks right- from the distance of the photo, you can't really tell what the material itself is or how it's been put onto the jersey. The description language of "Everything on the jersey is sewn. NO CHEAP HEAT TRANSFERS!" implies that it's sewn on, but you never know, and it doesn't say what the material is- it could be very nicely cut tape, vinyl, or even NHL.con's infamous single-layer screened-on appliqued twill, complete with screened-on stitch marks, rather than the proper double-layer sewn twill. From the distance of the photo, it almost looks passable. It's the name and numbering where it really goes awry. Also, from the photos, you don't see the hemtag at all, intentionally or not, so I'd question what version it is and how it's been applied to the jersey.

I also wonder how the stars are applied on this one- the description language implies they're sewn. However, if they were sewn, while this would theoretically sound like a good feature of the jersey based on the language in the description and most people's preferences on this board, contrary to all logical thought (other than to save CCM money on the production side) it would actually counterintuitively serve to validate the the jersey as a fake. On the "legitimate" Caps 550s, each star is individually applied as a heat-transfer patch. Despite the cost savings to CCM, in this regard, the "vintage" 550 of today is actually an improvement over some of the legitimate replicas from the 1990s, some of which actually used screened-on stars rather than individual heat-transfer patches, which often led to their worn-down appearance. For evidence of this, see http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=260548654455 (both enlarged photos, but especially visible on the right sleeve of the 1st one as you face the screen- also you can see the left white star lifting off less badly in the 2nd one), or http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=300391595058 (especially the 2nd large photo on the very bottom). Sometimes, it caused the stars to possibly eventually vanish entirely- see http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=280463453330 (ok, fine, maybe the stars were forgotten entirely on that one!). This probably came at the time they started using the "Ultrafil" material and the "crest" patch to cut costs [many have been Ebay-listed to my dismay]. Based on the manufacturing techniques they've used with today's "vintage" 550s, I'd guess that CCM eventually learned that using screened-on stars rather than having them be individually applied as heat-transfer patches or individually sewn [the way they were on my jersey actually made in the 1980s] was too much of a mistake in the production costs vs. appearance category to be acceptable.

What I have noticed with the Crosby Oceanic on dhgate is that they are much much more expensive.

Your typical fake crosby or ovechkin costs roughly $35 each....The Crosby Oceanic are up in the $60-$70 range.

Just thought that was weird.

I notice when asking a seller about a questionable jersey, they will NEVER reply to my email. Some thing simple such as, "Is that the jersey in the pic. for sale", "Can I see the fight strap"? and my favorite, "Why does an authentic jersey look like a Premiere with the embroidered logo on the arm?"

Good god. Now counterfeiters have jumped on the Caps bandwagon and are producing fakes of vintage jerseys. This completely sucks. I can only imagine how many of these I'm going to see at Verizon after the Olympic break.

This isn't an issue with the quality of customization, just the actual act of customization itself, i.e. who is on it- long-retired players on current-model jerseys. I don't know about anyone else, but this sort of thing really annoys me- if someone wants to put their own name, a friend's name, or a slogan (i.e. Slapshot 00, RockRed 09, Established 74, etc.), while I'd prefer an actual member of the team, those are still okay by me. This, on the other hand, is another story entirely.

In my daily Ebay search email for a Washington Capitals jersey this morning, I had several listings from a seller called locker_room_sports that really bug me. In the back of my mind, I kind of knew that eventually this would happen, as I've seen a few here and there at Verizon Center, albeit more often in the reverse with the ever-present phenomenon of throwback "vintage" Ovechkin jerseys being listed all over Ebay for quite a while. However, I never really expected the placement of retired players on the current Reebok Premier red jersey to happen to this extent. My first rule for jerseys is, before getting into whether a jersey is a replica or an authentic, who made it, whether it's dye-sublimated, stitched, or heat-pressed, whether it's customized properly, has some quality and some questionable elements, or whether it looks like it was done entirely by a 4 year old, I would never put anyone on a jersey who has never worn that style. For example, unless the Caps return from the Olympic break with a surprise 3rd jersey that is the same as the actual throwback "vintage" jersey (whether it's 550/6100-style or Premier/EDGE-style), I'd never advocate putting Ovechkin or any other current player on one. While I'd never be interested in such a thing myself, because of the above rule, I'd tolerate someone who went and bought a vintage blue 1980s-style Cleveland Cavaliers jersey with LeBron on it, because they've been wearing them this season. That all said, here's who I got in my email:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260557498535 - Kevin Hatcher

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260557490781 - Mike Liut

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360237409905 - Don Beaupre

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260557487099 - Peter Bondra

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360237407372 - Dale Hunter

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360237405351 - Scott Stevens

The seller also has listed a Rod Langway of the same style. The thought of these players theoretically suiting up for an actual NHL game today at their age strikes me as somewhat hysterical. At least they have Stevens and Hunter in their proper uniform along with current players (Ovechkin in red or white, Gordon, Fehr, Fleischmann, Backstom, Bradley, and Chimera), but this sort of thing irritates me. Like, why stop with these players with this idiocy- what about Dino, Gartner, Malarchuk, Yvon Labre or the likes of Corriveau, a customizer's nightmare Lou Franceschetti, or Brian Engblom? Speaking of announcers, if Craig Laughlin ever finds out about this seller, he's going to be really mad that he didn't make the cut! Does the thought of this bother anyone else, or am I alone in my school of thought that the authenticity of uniform to the person being put on the uniform should be properly respected?

Personally, it doesn't bother me any more than someone having their own name or some bs slogan crested on. I wouldn't ever wear anything like that but people are free to do as they please I suppose.

I am cool with someone putting their own name on a jersey. Look at it this way, only one person is in total control of who is loyal to the team that person's name is on. You. (And hey, don't we all wish we can be a part of the team)

Slogans and such on the other hand, those should really be saved for t-shirts.

While it doesn't keep me awake at night, it does annoy me slightly when I see it at a game. Just seems like a waste of a jersey to me. Same for sticking an old player's name on a new jersey (and vice versa).

To me a customized jersey should be an accurate (as possible) snap shot of a particular team at a particular time, but it's personal preference I guess.

I have two Flyers jerseys with my name and number on them. Only reason being, I played for the Jr. Flyers and our jerseys at the time were just Flyers replicas, which was nice.

That's cool and great reason! I'm with the purists, that you should not mix players with jerseys from eras they did not play in.

And I can't stand slogans or personal names on jerseys especially when the number belongs to a true star like 99, 66, 19 etc...

"Jones 99" just doesn't makes sense

The flip side to that is, what if your last name really is Crosby? Hey who's gonna know anyways when you put the 87 on.

I have a buddy who's last name is Svoboda, he can rock a few jerseys with his own last name.

I never really thought of that- I grew up with a Williams, a Jones, and several Green families. I have neighbors named Perry, Evans, Morrison, and Robinson. Plenty of random jersey possibilities there for them to use their own names - in the case of someone who has the same last name as a player, I wouldn't have anything against them putting the player's number as the number on their jersey. It would be even more interesting with some less-common names, like Svoboda. Not that you'd be likely to find too many other people with the actual last name of Ovechkin here in D.C., but if I found them, I'd be more than okay with them putting 8 as the number- after all, they can't help what their name is and might as well pick the number that goes with the actual player.
