Preferably the rear of the jersey to see if they had the little umlats or whatever the 2 dots are ... may have a lead on a game worn from the world cup for a good price...on my phone at work right now and its slow as hell.. appreciate any help
chow_hound
Hey, They did NOT have them as far as I know. http://www.google.ca/imgres?imgurl=http://thumb5.webshots.net/t/72/72/8/7/32/2927807320103856785fuEYZX_th.jpg&imgrefurl=http://good-times.webshots.com/album/568114991VfmMWI&usg=__FcaeTaCcPfBogVP75LWyfeekmEg=&h=75&w=100&sz=4&hl=en&start=61&zoom=1&um=1&itbs=1&tbnid=m9hAynQpSoXkvM:&tbnh=61&tbnw=82&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dossi%2Bvaananen%2B2004%2Bworld%2Bcup%26start%3D60%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26safe%3Dactive%26sa%3DN%26ndsp%3D20%26biw%3D1132%26bih%3D706%26tbm%3Disch&ei=CcjJTZGkEIHTgQe3tLnUBw
IIHFjerseycollector
i saw that picture too.. but when looking on getty images I found this.. you can barely see the umlats above the A and also JeffB has a Selanne with the umlats.. "2004 World Cup Team Finland Teemu Sleanne jersey. Finland started the tournament in Europe and players had umlauts used with their names"
chow_hound
http://www.iwn.fi/~dana/gw_players/Timonen_WCH.html Timonen without them aswell. It depends on the annunciation of the name if it will have them or not. I can't see how a Road and a Home have different lettering for the same player... Your picture DEFINITELY shows them though... very strange
IIHFjerseycollector
on youtube i found a video between Sweden and Finland where you can see the umlats if you look very close and use the pause button
chow_hound
Yeah, at 44 seconds you can see them on his jersey. Is it a possibility that they wore more than 1 set and changed them based on the continent they played in? Either that or the jersey in question had a nameplate removal after it was used and the person who owns it replaced it and overlooked the fact of the umlauts??? IIHFjerseycollector
im trying to acquire this jersey at the moment.. they are asking a VERY good price...they claim its game worn with a COA..
JeffB
Given some time, I had a CD with pictures I shot at the game in St. Paul which may show what you are looking for, but it's been years since I've see it but I stand by my Selanne with the round dots for the umlaut. mithras1
Yeah, at 44 seconds you can see them on his jersey. Either that or the jersey in question had a nameplate removal after it was used and the person who owns it replaced it and overlooked the fact of the umlauts??? Better (and very clear) view @ 1:21 On a sidenote: Timonen has no ümlaut, period. How it's written decides the pronunciation, not the other way around ofcourse but that's probably what was meant in the first place. Well unless you translate from Russian in cyrillic writing to English or some other non-western alphabet . And one for JeffB but you probably found it the first time around back when ... (vs USA in Canada) Note to self: Time to update that avatar
mithras1
Here is a Väänänen without ümlauts btw in the same game as the Selänne above:
Yzerman fan
Would they have the IIHF patches though? It wasn't a sanctioned IIHF tournament.
Brilliant!
Yeah, the World Cup jerseys from that year did have IIHF patches on them.
